SharePoint Sites getting error "Something went wrong with exception 0x80041054”, Symantec antivirus unloaded







Problem:
======
If users are reporting below problem while accessing SharePoint sites or documents:

 "Something went wrong with exception 0x80041054”

Virus Found
<file name> contains the following:
If you want to open this file, you'll need to clean the file using your own scanning software.

If the user tries to download a copy of the file by clicking Download a copy, they receive the following error message:
Sorry, something went wrong
Virus Found:
Technical Details

Check if you see below error event id 0, 1 on your application event viewer logs:

  1.    Module=ScanObject.Initialize | Exception message=The wait completed due to an abandoned mutex. | Stack=   at System.Threading.WaitHandle.InternalWaitOne(SafeHandle waitableSafeHandle, Int64 millisecondsTimeout, Boolean hasThreadAffinity, Boolean exitContext)at Symantec.Sharepoint.ScanLibrary.ScanObject._()at Symantec.Sharepoint.ScanLibrary.ScanObject.Initialize(String& pbstrProduct, Int32& pdwVersion)
  2. # 960012 : Download the antivirus scanner completed . Error -214746725



Solution/workaround:

Restart SPSS service. If it doesn't help, then check this KB for more information https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2953311


Note- If you do not have Antivirus enabled on upload/download in your SP farm, then contact MS support for same.
